Welcome to English 10!!! During the first week of school, I established the fact that I will do everything in my power to keep students curious and engaged on a daily basis. I also spoke candidly about the high expectations I have for your children and my #1 goal: to make learning fun! I will also work hard to create a safe and healthy classroom environment. I absolutely love working with teenagers and building meaningful relationships that will inspire them to work hard to maximize their ability. Building those relationships with students and establishing a mutual trust will allow us to work together toward a common goal: becoming better prepared for success in English 11, success on the ACT, and success in life. Because I am genuinely interested in what makes each student "tick," I required students to complete an "interest survey" in order for me to better understand what each student likes, what they dislike, what they are interested in, and what motivates them. Each student also wrote a one-paragraph personal definition of "respect," the #1 rule in my classroom.
This week in English 10, students will take their first vocabulary quiz and complete an internet-based research assignment in which they investigate one of several topics associated with the first novel we will read, Of Mice and Men. I will try to be diligent about posting due dates for assignments and assessments in Infinite Campus at the beginning of each week. I'm looking forward to making this the Best Year Ever and providing your students with a classroom experience they will remember for the rest of their lives.
